How to Become a Transfer Student

Whether your current college isn’t a good fit for you or you’ve relocated to the area and want to continue your undergraduate studies, Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio welcomes you. In fact, thirty-five percent of our students are transfers from other institutions!

 

The support you need as a transfer student

It can be daunting to transfer colleges. But as a transfer student at Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, you’ll feel welcomed, supported, and part of a vibrant Catholic university that is focused on your success — personally, professionally, and spiritually.

Begin your transfer process by filling out the online application. You can start it now and come back to finish it any time.

Transcripts

Be sure to have all colleges that you have attended submit an official transcript to us.

Contact the registrar at each institution for their protocol on requesting an official transcript.

Transfer Credits

Full credit will be given for most courses transferred from an institution accredited by one of the regional accreditation associations, provided certain GPA and other requirements are met.

When you send in your college transcripts, the Admissions Office will provide a transfer credit evaluation. This will help you understand how your credits will transfer in, and how many more credits you will need to complete your degree at Franciscan.

Transferring Requirements

Overall Undergraduate Transfers

Transferring from another university can be daunting, at Franciscan we strive to make the application process and transition as streamlined as possible.

To transfer to Franciscan University, you will need:

  • A minimum cumulative 2.2 GPA or higher on the 4.0 scale from your previous college or university.
  • Completed a minimum of 24 college credits from an accredited institution.
    • SAT/ACT scores are not required

If you have not successfully completed 24 college-level credits, your high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores will be considered along with your college GPA. Midterm grade reports may also be required.

 

Nursing Students

  • Complete the nursing admission form
  • Earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Successfully completed required freshman sciences with a grade of C or above
  • Successfully completed your freshman course requirements

Note: Nursing credits earned from other institutions are typically not transferable. Contact the Franciscan University Office of Admissions or the Department of Nursing if you have questions.

 

Application Process for Undergraduate Transfer Admissions

  1. Complete the application for admission
  2. Send all college transcripts to Franciscan’s Undergraduate Admissions Office.
    1. Official transcripts are accepted by mail or electronically.
    2. Homeschool transcripts must be signed by the primary educator and notarized.

If you are enrolling at Franciscan as a transfer student, upon acceptance you must submit or set-up: 

  • A non-refundable enrollment deposit of $500 
  • FAFSA documents to receive your Financial Aid Package 
  • AccessFUS account to see your email, housing assignment, and class schedule  
  • A Confidential Health Record Form (found on your student account) 
  • Final official transcripts of all high school and college course work 
  • New Student Housing Contract (found on your student account) 

Transferring Credits to Franciscan

Top of mind for you as a transfer student is how to successfully transfer college credits to Franciscan University in Ohio. If you have specific questions after reviewing the following information contact the Franciscan University Office of the Registrar at 740-283-6226 or [email protected].

  • Full credit will be given for most courses transferred from an institution accredited by one of the regional accreditation associations, provided the grade for each course is C (2.00) or better.
  • Courses in which a grade below a college C are earned are not automatically transferable.
  • No college credit will be given for homeschool or correspondence course work.
  • Canadian students: Ontario Academic Credits (OAC) are NOT accepted for credit.
  • A final Advanced Standing Evaluation will be done after all official transcripts have been received. This evaluation is subject to the approval of your academic advisor.
  • Students who register for courses without an Advanced Standing Evaluation assume total responsibility for any registration errors.
  • In no case may a student earn credit for a course, or equivalent, for which prior credit was earned.
  • Military credits are awarded as recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE). In general, only experience recommended by ACE for academic credit is considered for transfer. There is no maximum for the number of credits eligible for transfer, and “P” and “S” grades are accepted for these courses.
